Select the library that you wish to open. A list of libraries that you have previously opened will be displayed.In the dialog box that appears, select Open an existing library OR from the menu bar, select File > Open. Choose where you would like to save your new library.ENL extension, which stands for End Note Library. The New Reference Library dialog box will appear.
In the dialog box that appears, select Create a new library OR from the menu bar, select File > New. While there is no limit to the number of references that can be stored in one library, we suggest that the number not exceed 100,000.We recommend that you store all your references in one or two libraries and use Groups and Group Sets (see below) to organize and categorize references.Each reference is stored as an individual record with different data fields for author, title, etc. A library is a collection of references.Use the Highlight > Edit and Manage Citations > Remove Citation instead of using the delete key. In the future, you have to remember to properly delete EndNote citations/references to make sure residual field codes do not cause problems again. This action will reformat your document in your chosen style. Now, ensuring that your EndNote library is open, in your new Word document, in the EndNote tab, click on Update Citations and Bibliography.Open a new document and press +V to paste.Press +6 (above the “T” and “Y” key) to remove any additional hidden field codes.Press +A on the keyboard to highlight everything.
In Word, in the EndNote tab, click on Convert Citations and Bibliography > Convert to Unformatted Citations.
To remove residual EndNote field codes and ‘clean up’ your Word document, firstly, make a backup copy of your document for safe-keeping, then: This residual appears when you don’t delete EndNote citations/references properly (using Edit and Manage Citations > Remove Citation instead of the delete key). These errors may occur because you have residual EndNote field codes in your document. When you work on a word document using EndNote, you might encounter these errors such as Word crashing, bibliographies appearing multiple times, and/or deleted items reappearing.
